Who are you?
I'm a self employed juggler and entertainer who has been working with kids for over 15 years.  I live in Surrey with my wife and our two daughters.
How long is the party?
Normally two hours at the weekend. I can do less than that but unfortunately, the cost usually remains the same. Usual time slots at the weekend are 11-1 or 3-5 with at least 30 mins either side for setting up and packing away. After school, a shorter party is better (60-90mins).
What age range do you work with?
Usually 5 years and up (although I only do fifth birthdays in the second half of the academic year when most of the class have already turned 5).
Can a younger sibling join in even if they are under 5
Absolutely yes they can (as long as parents keep an eye on them).
What is the maximum number of children?
30 kids (class size) is fine. If you are inviting more than this, please let me know and I may have to arrange an assistant for the party (This will significantly increase the cost).
What area do you cover?
I’m based in Surrey but I’m will to travel (travel costs will be added). Most of my work is in London and the home counties.
What venues can you work in?
Hired halls are ideal. Most homes and gardens are not suitable venues for this party (size and breakables).
Can you work outdoors?
I don't do workshops outdoors but I can do a show or walkabout set outside if that's what you need.
Do you let the children try the tight wire (tightrope).
Yes. The tight wire (tight rope) is on a freestanding metal frame that is about 3 metres long and 60cm high. Obviously, no child is allowed to use the tight wire unsupervised.  And yes, grown ups can have a go too ;-)
Is the party safe?
The party is as safe as anything that involves 20 - 30 excited children. All activities are taught with safety instructions and every effort is made to make the party as safe and as fun as possible.
Do you do parties after school on weekdays?
Yes I do, but over the years I've found that my full 2 hour party can be a bit much for kids who've just done a day at school. I offer a shorter party for weekdays at a slightly reduced cost.
Do you need a break during the party?
I don't, but the kids will. It's a good idea to have food/cake and candles about midway through. During this time I entertain around the tables. For a full party description, see the Parties page.
Are you DBS (CRB) checked?
Yes I do and I'm on the update service. Please contact me for details..
Do you have Public Liability Insurance?
Yes I do. Included with my Equity membership.
Do you entertain grown-ups too?
Yes! I do family shows all the time.
For exclusively grown-up events though, you need a different website...
www.samveale.com
How much does the party cost?
A two hour party is £270 plus travel. Please contact me for a quote.
Can I phone you to discuss the party?
I took my number off this site as it led to a frustrating number of marketing calls.  If you would like to speak to me, please email me and I will send you my number or call you.
Do you have any other requirements?
  • A parking space as close as possible to the venue (I have a lot to unload)
  • A plug for my microphone and speaker
  • A slice of birthday cake ;-)
Party Tips...

  • Don’t panic!!!
  • The start time of the party is also the best arrival time for the guests. It can be disruptive if everyone arrives before I’m set up. If possible, this is also the best time for the birthday child to arrive.
  • Don’t overdo it! If you’re already providing food and an entertainer, don’t feel that you need a bouncy castle, some fairground rides and a petting zoo as well. The kids will just feel overwhelmed.
  • If you do want to book something else as well as the entertainer (eg a face painter), let everyone know in advance so that they can work with or around one another.
  • Balloons are a great way to decorate the venue but please don’t scatter loose balloons throughout the hall as they can be very disruptive.
  • If you bring the birthday child to the party early, try to bring something for them to do whilst everyone sets up so they don’t get bored and restless.
  • I’m happy for parents to stay and get involved in the party but it can be a problem if they stand at the back and talk loudly. Try to bear this in mind and, if possible, remind them to keep it down.
  • It’s a good idea to have a water/juice station throughout the party, especially in the hot weather, but don’t feed the kids all the way through. Save that for the break.
  • Kids love a party bag but try to avoid the usual cheap plastic toys. Books are a good alternative (as is a spinning plate!).
  • Noise levels can get high at a children's party. If there are very young children present, or kids with noise sensitivity, it might be an idea to bring ear protection for them.
